As everyone knows, complete Carboniferous trilobites are quite rare and highly collectible. This is a very unusual double specimen of Ameropiltonia lauradanae and Comptonaspis swallowi from the Mississippian of Missouri. The trilobite in the middle of the plate is Ameropiltonia, and is preserved in a ventral position. This is not an impression, but the actual carapace preserved in bottom view. The trilobite at the top left of the slab is a dorsal view Comptonaspis, which exhibits the fine detail of the exoskeleton in wonderful fashion. Both trilobites are complete and well articulated. The natural color of the trilobites contrasts beautifully with the grey matrix. This is a very cool plate of two different Mississippian trilobites prepared in both ventral and dorsal views.
