This is a rare Moroccan trilobite. It is a TRUE Metacanthina barrandea from the Devonian of Morocco. This classic trilobite was acquired from a major trilobite collection. This type is the ORIGINAL and TRUE Metacanthina barrandea - the trilobite that is now called Hollardops mesochristata was mistakenly called Metacanthina barrandea for over a decade. This 3-dimensional bug is well articulated and exhibits outstanding detail. The individual lenses of the large, crescent-shaped, compound eyes are very well preserved and very easily seen. The NATURALLY ORANGE trilobite contrasts beautifully with the light-brown matrix. The fossil is well displayed on the block of limestone. This is an excellent example of a REAL Metacanthina barrandea straight out of a collection.
