This is a large, robust specimen of Cryptolithus bellulus from the Ordovician of Pennsylvania. The locality at Swatara Gap is very well known. However, the exposure is quite small. Looking through the shale for a day might yield a Cryptolithus or it might not. This large specimen has good orange, limonite color. The cephalon is extremely inflated. One long genal spine is exposed and extends past the pygidium. The other genal spine is still buried in the matrix. The trilobite is nicely articulated and rests on a natural piece of shale matrix. This is a fine specimen of a Cryptolithus from this famous locality.
