This is a centerpiece trilobite fossil. It is a beautifully sculpted specimen of Hollardops mesocristata from the Devonian of Morocco. This fine specimen was meticulously prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado. The trilobite is very 3-D and extremely inflated. The wonderfully articulated bug is superbly preserved and exhibits excellent detail. The crescent-shaped compound eyes are beautifully displayed. The light black trilobite contrasts extremely well with the light-colored, sculpted limestone. But wait, there's more! The edge of this critter has been prepared from BOTH SIDES! The brim of the head, genal spines, left side pleurons, and tail spines only have the thin SHELL intact - there is no rock to obscure its features! The majority of this trilobite has been fully exposed around the edge! The delicate preparation needed to preform this miracle is simply incredible - how many prep artists could pull this off? This is one of the most amazing examples of Hollardops we have ever prepared.
