Here is an uncommon trilobite. This is a new species of Phacops from the Devonian of Morocco. This type of Phacops has fewer eye facets than the more common Phacops speculator. This trilobite is quite prone and extremely 3-dimensional. The thick shell of the exoskeleton exhibits excellent detail. The large, compound eyes are well preserved - the individual lenses are easily seen. The black trilobite contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The bug is beautifully showcased on the sculpted block of dense limestone. This is a very fine specimen of this unusual Phacopid trilobite from the Atlas Mountains.
