This is a large, 3-D specimen of Isotelus from the Ordovician of Ontario, Canada. This Isotelus gigas (not the more common I. mafritzi) was in the Eugene Thomas Collection and just recently fully prepared. This outstretched trilobite is wonderfully articulated and almost perfectly prone. The bug exhibits very fine detail - all of the pleuron tips are easily seen. The thick-shelled exoskeleton is beautifully preserved (some crushing on the tail) and contrasts strikingly with the lighter-colored matrix. The trilobite is well centered on the rectangular block of limestone. And this is one of the most inflated and 3-D examples of this type we have seen from Ontario. This is a large, impressive example of an Isotelus gigas from Ontario - a true collection piece.
