This is an excellent specimen of Drotopsmegalomanicus from the Devonian of Morocco. This specimen was meticulously prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado. This Phacopid trilobite is not only large - it is EXTREMELY inflated and wonderfully articulated. This specimen exhibits great detail - the granulose texture of the thick shell exoskeleton is very well defined. ALL of the individual lenses of the eyes are easily seen. The right side of the body shows evidence of predation - if you look closely, you can see that the bite took out one entire pleuron and part of another! The black trilobite contrasts nicely with the light grey matrix. The bug is wonderfully showcased on the compact block of sculpted limestone. And if you look at the back side of the bug, the hypostoma (mouthplate) is also beautifully displayed!Every trilobite collector should have a fabulous Drotops in their collection - unfortunately, there just aren't good ones like this to go around.
