Here is an unusual Moroccan trilobite. This is a Coltraneia oufatenensis from the Atlas Mountains. This type of trilobite has extremely large eyes that protrude way above the carapace and very thin skin on the exoskeleton. This outstretched trilobite is complete and quite inflated. It is wonderfully articulated and exhibits fine detail - most of the individual lenses of the HUGE compound eyes are easily seen. The pointed pleural and pygidial spines are beautifully defined. The natural color of the trilobite contrasts strikingly with the grey matrix. The bug is nicely showcased on the sculpted block of limestone. This is a very fine specimen of Coltraneia oufatenensis from Africa.
