This is a gorgeous trilobite. It is a very large Asaphus (Neoasaphus) kowalewskii from the Ordovician of Russia. This trilobite is nicely inflated and wonderfully articulated. The bug has extremely long-stalked eyes that have been prepared in a free-standing position. The cephalon is slightly tucked downward so that the eye stalks extend out in front of the trilobite at a rakish angle. The thick exoskeleton has outstanding caramel-brown color and contrasts strikingly with the light-colored matrix. The trilobite is beautifully displayed in the center of the sculpted plate of limestone. This is an outstanding specimen of one of the most collectible trilobites in the world.
