This is an excellent Silurian trilobite. It is a Calymene niagarensis from the Rochester Shale of New York. This 3-dimensional bug is almost perfectly prone and wonderfully articulated. It has very thick exoskeleton and exhibits outstanding detail. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The dark brownish-black trilobite contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. The trilobite is beautifully displayed on the natural plate of shale. This is a very symmetrical specimen of Calymene niagarensis from New York.
